ATTILA PÓK is the István Deák Visiting Professor of East Central European Studies for the Spring 2011 semester at Columbia University.
Dr. Pók is Deputy Director of the Institute of History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest. He also holds the title of Deputy Director of the Europa Institut Budapest, a privately supported foundation. Professor Pók is Secretary General of the Hungarian Historical Association, the most important organization for the dissemination of historical knowledge in the country. His areas of research and teaching experience cover three major fields: 19th-20th century European political and intellectual history; history of modern European historical writing and historical thought; and theory and methodology of history. Since 1999 he has spent seven semesters at Columbia as a visiting professor of history.
